Elgin Energy is on a mission to shape Ireland's sustainable future by fostering talent in the renewable energy sector. Our commitment extends to individuals from diverse backgrounds, offering rewarding careers and a graduate program to contribute to Ireland's flourishing renewable energy industry.

Elgin Energy’s mission as a solar developer is to design and deliver projects that create a sustainable future for everyone, alongside empowering individuals to be a part of Ireland’s greener future. We recently had the opportunity to sit down with Caroline Dunne Assoc CIPD, Head of People and Culture, and Aideen O Mahony, Talent Partner, to discuss Elgin Energy’s approach to talent recruitment and the opportunities it offers in the renewable energy sector.

“When I joined Elgin Energy, there were just 33 of us,” recalls Caroline, reflecting on our journey. “Today, we’re at 82, with plans to reach 90 to 95 by year-end and a forecast to employ 250 within the next few years.” This growth mirrors the rapid expansion of the renewable energy sector in Ireland, where opportunities are emerging at an unprecedented pace. While the industry, especially in Ireland, often requires niche talents, we are committed to nurturing talent and fostering innovation, ensuring we have the right skill sets to drive the sector forward. Elgin Energy is not just a rising company; we’re in the development phase of our journey. As Aideen points out, “We don’t expect someone to have 15 years of solar experience. We understand that our industry is rapidly evolving, and we’re just getting started. Our commitment extends beyond finding experts; it’s about cultivating talent and providing individuals with the opportunity to grow with us as the renewable energy sector flourishes.” While solar and renewable energy expertise is undoubtedly valuable, it’s not the only path to a rewarding career at Elgin Energy. Our focus extends to supporting roles that will be available as Elgin continues to grow. These roles encompass a wide array of backgrounds and skills, reflecting the diverse nature of the sector. Whether you have an environmental science degree, engineering qualifications, or expertise in project management, Elgin Energy is ready to provide a platform for your growth and innovation. Our ambition is to be at the forefront of the renewable energy industry, and that requires a team with a wide range of skills and experiences. As Caroline highlights, “We want individuals willing to learn, collaborate, and innovate.”

“We don’t expect someone to have 15 years of solar experience. We understand that our industry is rapidly evolving, and we’re just getting started. Our commitment extends beyond finding experts; it’s about cultivating talent and providing individuals with the opportunity to grow with us as the renewable energy sector flourishes.”

As we continue to expand, our commitment to nurturing talent and investing in our team’s future is crucial and is at the core of Elgin Energy’s mission. Caroline notes, “As we continue to invest in our growth, we’re equally invested in the growth and success of our employees. We’re developing succession programs, conducting 360-degree feedback and occupational psychology sessions to identify the skills needed for career growth.” Our manager’s program will provide opportunities for skill development and career progression. We understand the industry is evolving rapidly, and our employees must keep pace. From project management courses to Lean Six Sigma, we’re investing in training to ensure our workforce is equipped with the necessary skills to thrive in this sector.

“We aim to provide an exceptional employee experience, ensuring that our team members meet their career goals and develop skills they can take to their next job,” Aideen adds.

Elgin Energy’s graduate program illustrates our dedication to fostering new talent and our commitment to expanding. Caroline notes, “Our grad program started with three people, and we hope to have 12 grads starting with us in 2024. That’s nearly a threefold increase in two to three years.” We are proud to be the only graduate solar program in Ireland, a testament to our pioneering role in the industry. Aideen elaborates on Elgin Energy’s approach to the program, saying, “For the grad program, we’re not just looking for people from an engineering background; we’re open to all faculties as long as individuals have the right attitude.” Our commitment extends to individuals from various educational backgrounds as we seek those who are passionate and willing to learn. We aim to provide a platform for individuals eager to participate in Ireland’s sustainable future, regardless of their background or experience in solar energy. Our graduate program is just one example of how we’re creating opportunities for individuals to embark on rewarding careers in the industry as it continues to expand.

As the renewable energy industry in Ireland flourishes, so do our ambitions as we strive to empower individuals to be a part of Ireland’s sustainable future. We are dedicated to cultivating talent, fostering innovation, and ensuring the right skill sets are in place to drive the renewable energy sector forward, recognising that the sector requires a diverse range of skills and backgrounds, and our doors are open to all who are willing to learn, collaborate, and innovate.

If you are passionate about shaping the future of sustainable energy in Ireland, we invite you to explore the opportunities at Elgin Energy. Whether you have expertise in renewable energy or come from a different background, there’s a place for you on our team.
