ELGIN ENERGY PARTNERS WITH THE EDINBURGH INTERNATIONAL SCIENCE FESTIVAL

Elgin Energy is delighted to announce our 4-year partnership with the Edinburgh International Science Festival and their Generation Science Programme. Through our partnership, the programme aims to inspire and educate up to 3,000 students in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) over the next four years.

The Edinburgh International Science Festival was established in 1989 to provide children with educational programmes and encourage interest in STEM subjects. In 1991, the Generation Science Programme was launched to expand the festival nationally. To date, it is the largest UK science education outreach programme for primary schools.

Our partnership will initially focus on the Moray area in North East Scotland. We are currently developing two solar farms in Moray. The first is a 20MW solar farm known as Speyslaw. Planning permission was granted by Moray Council on 21 August 2017. Once energised, Speyslaw will generate sufficient low carbon electricity to power in the region of 6,000 households.

The second development in Moray is on Milltown Airfield. A final determination from the Scottish Ministers is expected on the 50MW project in Q1 2018. With a combined capacity of circa 70MW, these projects will make a substantial contribution to Scotland’s renewable energy targets.

Elgin Energy is firmly committed to the communities in which we operate and believe that education is a key component in the development of the solar industry. We are thrilled at the opportunity to partner with an internationally recognized Scottish institution. This partnership affords us a unique opportunity to provide a community contribution direct to the local area and in doing so, enables Generation Science to break down economic and geographic barriers to participation. We hope that the programme will inspire the next generation of STEM professionals.
